I agree, but complaining about the use of CGI in The Hobbit is like complaining that the Taliban doesn't support paid maternity leave. There's a fuckton of far more serious shit to criticize.

It's interesting that you bring this up with shots from LOTR. You're absolutely right. Real acting, and thus better enemies, can also carry over to the heros in the same movie and spawn from genuine reaction. In this same trilogy, in a scene where Aragorn (Vigo Mortenson) kicks a helmet and then screams in anger was actually a real reaction and scream because he actually broke his toe when he kicked the helmet.
