In what world will hurting the wallets of a few hedgefund companies (not even half a scratch, by the way, you cannot even fathom how much money these guys have and make) hurt "The Economy™"?

I'm gonna laugh so hard when the trolls who started this trend quickly cash out and make huge bank while the fools who followed them are left slack-jawed and EATING it.

Lol, like a single company getting a capital bubble trough stock ever hurt the economy in any meaningful way. Like this would mean jack shit while the economy is already in the gutter thanks to the lockdowns.
It hurt some speculants who are being little bitches about it, and their friends in the media and government are rushing to their aid to punish the lower class people who dared to step out of line, that is all that is happening.

Finance undergraduate major here (Bachelor's but still good), that will in no way hurt the economy and might actually be a consecquence of the current economic system.
Shorting is betting AGAINST the markets and are justified because of the volume increases and the win-loss that balances everything out.
This one case was a natural self-regulation of the market against such huge volume of bets against the market.
Future rich companies will seek other opportunities in which to apply this.
