My work had me do a solicitation for a promotion while I was the only candidate.. Guess what I got it..

Congrats. I'm bitter from my own experience but I found these surprise internal promotions were a method to preempt a true promotion and wage increase. I got a token £2,000 with senior, which in looking back I now know was about £4,000 less than what I should have been on. But, I felt grateful at the time as it was a surprise letter in the post

Except that the promotion doesn’t come with more pay, a better title, or benefits, just more work…

Happened 3 times for me in the same company, was just minding my own business and got 3 promotions.

When you apply for promotion due to your experience but don’t get the job because they chose a less experienced worker to fit a certain narrative.

If the money remained the same, you weren't promoted - you were screwed
