Overstimulation.
Im 35, and the over the top fights means near to nothing to me. Yet the main demographic audience wants to see two clash of fists with a mountain braking down to minecraft blocks with an explosion that will make Michael Bay prematurely jizz 'imself.
Worldbuilding and well handled escalations (power, plot, stakes) are something I desire, and that crap will simply not happen in 1 season, and if they do, the audience that likes the first paragraph wont like that, so season2 will be unlikely.
So manga and lightnovels are the path, and the hope that the anime industry realising they already showed every alteration of powerfantasy now.

I'm an adult, and I really dislike some popular animes like Kimetsu no Yaiba, One Piece, Naruto, My Hero Academia, Komi san and I don't line anymore anime like Death Note or FMA.
But I still find new anime that works with my adult's taste. Check anime on myanimelist whigh high scores. And stay away from anything with powerfull teenager saving the world (that's the majority of anime industry).
If you like Dexter, have you already watched Monster ?

The Passage of Time is a cruel thing indeed. But something that has to happen… nonetheless you can find rest und purpose in your new venture and feel reassured that you are not the only one affected by it

Yeah i feel ya, now i'm more into reading manga and a few lightnovels. Even when I'm reading, i tends to avoid ecchi, harem genre. Those type of genre just doesn't interest me anymore.

Tastes change with a lot of factors, time, experience and some other stuff. I used to be able to stomach a lot more garbage and cliche shows, but after seeing it for the 21389012th time my mind can't be bothered to anymore. I also can't rewatch some stuff I liked due to the same reasons
But that's not a bad thing, there's an absurdly large number of available stories, just find something else you enjoy.

I get you. Unfortunately, that's growing up for you. You identify less and less with the more teenager-ey characters you enjoyed when you were an adolescent yourself. That, and the fact that for each interesting anme which comes out, there is several dozen uninteresting ones. x) (for me that's the case at least).
But hey, there still are animes to enoy. ^^ It only means trying out a few pilots here and there until you find one(s) ou actually enjoy. ;)

On the bright side, Dexter (the serial killer TV series) is finally getting new season (4 episodes already out). I'm excited to see how they're gonna end it with the limited release.
