58 years ago…On 18 March 1965 Russian cosmonaut Alexei Leonov steps from the spacecraft Voskhod 2 to become the first man to walk in outer space. He was outside the spacecraft for 12 minutes and 9 seconds (Outer Space 1965)

These guys back then were pretty badasses. At the end of the spacewalk, Leonov's spacesuit had inflated in the vacuum of space to the point where he could not re-enter the airlock. He opened a valve to allow some of the suit's pressure to bleed off and was barely able to get back inside the capsule.

Fun fact: Leonov had a cyanide pill taped to the inside of his helmet in case he got detached from the spacecraft, as there would have been no hope of rescue. He almost needed it too, when his spacesuit, stiffened by the cold of space, got stuck in the hatch and he couldn't get back in.
