Carry a bear bell and bear spray when you hike. This looks like Banff. You probably should’ve done one quick sweeping spray behind you and kept walking. Teaching children not to run when facing a predator is very smart. It triggers their hunt instinct when you run. Stopping and confronting bears make they perceive you as another predator, and therefore a possible threat.
