Degenerated cat with no natural behavior? Feels a bit bad to be frank :) At least for me.. I see many cats around.. and we feed them for time to time, so they stay near and catch mice and actually eat them. Better than mouse traps!

My honest guess is that if a potential prey smells of the 'alpha' (you, the owner), then they don't hurt it because it belongs to you, not them.
