So the story is that doctors are required by law to inform pregnant women that there are comprehensive screening tests available. About 85% of them get the test. Abortion is allowed up to 16 weeks but there is an exception if the fetus has a deformity which Downs Syndrome qualifies as. There are still 2-3 children a year born with Downs in Iceland.

Nazi Germany had a similar idea to solve the problem.

That's not eradication. the same number of kids are still getting it as before. They just aren't being born.

Why stop there? Why not sterilize the mother and father and ensure the gene never gets passed on.
