This is a city issue. Like in all cities in the US. Every city has higher crime rates, higher rent, and more diversity... Unless you live in an expensive protected area of the city. Those are primarily white and have no crime because well, money protects them.

Be afraid of refugees and immigrants, it's a story as old as time and very practical for the rich and powerful. I'm not saying large-scale immigrations are without problems, it's not. but most places take in very few people and the problems are mostly a result of a lack of integration into society and lack of opportunity. All things that can be fixed if we wanted to.

There are solutions to that that don't necessarily include machine guns at borders. Jobs. Like, a LOT more jobs. It bobbles my mind how can countries let unemployment rise above 7%. In my country Unemployment is 16% officially with MASSIVE number cooking (if you EVER worked ONCE = you can never be considered unemployed ever again) That's millions of people who can be productive sitting on their ass. How. How can you not provide jobs? I can understand wealth, it needs time and complex math but jobs? Build factories, pay farming subsides, push tourism industries, more doctors, more hospitals more police stations like, literally anything. Give jobs to all. Now all have some (even little) expendable money. Stores start selling more things. The economy starts moving. People start saving for houses, and the housing price will fall as more houses are built. If you sit on your ass and accept 50% of your total population as refugees/immigrants and just. . . do nothing, then yeah, no shit.
Diversity in general leads to low wages and high rent? It's interesting how people can bend their mind to find causation in everything...
