Am I wrong in thinking the choice in alphabet was entirely due to the whole Orthodox-Catholic divide?

Japanese: "Let's use 2 own alphabets, which are derived from Chinese characters we borrowed, but still use the Chinese ones, which in turn are only guidelines to what you may have to spell." 女 - onna 女性 - josei 女房 - nyoubou 乙女 - otome

Unofficially, Serbia is on the Cyrillic side but we kept Latin mandatory for kids to learn from the yugoslavia times when we had to please our latin using countrymen

Cyrillic in Serbia is like a pyramid scheme. You leatn it in elementary school because you need it to become a teacher to teach it in elementary school
