Ok, let me discuss something. Humans are related to any vertebrate specie that exists because vertebrates are monophyletic taxon (all had diverged from one ancestor). The difference is that we are related to primates more and have diverged sooner from them than from other mammals, reptiles, amphibians of fishes. The phylogram shows that hominids (such as H. sapiens) share latest ancestors with pongids (apes) that lived between 19.3 and 15.7 million years ago when split happened. Evolution is based on constant changes of species as adaptations to new and everlasting changes of environment. So the ancestor that we share with pongids and that lived more than 15 milion years ago didn't look alike todays humans, nor apes. Therefore, he wasn't human, nor an ape, but a ape-like being. Therefore, humans didn't evolved from monkeys, because todays monkeys weren't as they were 15 milion years ago. To coclude, better saying is that we and apes were closely related than other living beings...

Better to evolve from monkeys than from test tubes.

Two reminders: 1. Humans didn't evolve from monkeys, humans evolved from ancestors shared with monkeys. 2. Humans ARE apes.
