It's very clear from many news reports that Biden personally made the key strategic personal decisions that lead to this failure. - Unilateral US withdrawal - Afghanistan was a rare article 5 NATO operation. Total European forces were over 7000 compared to 2500 US. NATO allies were furious at the US decision, made without consulting them per the agreement. The Europeans saw the value of maintaining a small force and wanted to stay. - Public withdrawal date - In May Joe announced an August 31st date for complete withdrawal of US forces. This is key because it was in the middle of the "fighting season" and gave the Taliban a planning date. - Bagram Bug Out - US forces left the airbase in the middle of the night, setting off a panic in the Afghan military and government. Afghan and NATO forces were dependent on air power and resupply - Abandoned Citizens - Other NATO countries sent their military to rescue their citizens. Not Joe Biden. He's left hundreds of hostages
