Well star trek actually had way more advanced tech than star gate it just wasn't necessarily controlled by the federation
Sure, but in combat a Star Fleet ship could take an absolutely massive amount of incoming fire from even an Asgard plasma beam before depleting their shields. And until the Defiant, all Star Fleet ships have sustained energy beam weapons. And that's not even counting weapons like quantum torpedoes or self-replicating mines.
One is more realistic than the other. In reality it would take thousands of years to cross 0.1% of the Galaxy
