They tried to claim Spongebob was gay a long time ago, I think it was like 2007-2010 and the creators stepped in (including Spongebob's voice actor) saying 'it's a kids show, he doesn't have a sexual preference' and basically told anybody saying he was gay they need to get a life and stop assigning sexual preference/gender/whatever else to FICTIONAL CARTOON CHARACTERS FOR CHILDREN.
