what the point ? mars will be our last resort... our back up.... if we dont manage to deal with war / nature / diseases in time... the ppl on mars will be the humans that survive... and someday will come back to earth to reclaim it for humankind.... thinks are really really bad right now... we have about 20 years to figure out shit or its done

my thoughts exactly. Go to mars to bring all the food from earth. Surely techno advancements will help but why would i go to that shitty planet? I prefer to die here.

It would be better if we started colonizing venus. Cheaper, easier and more suitable for life

The hardest part about going to Mars to colonize is getting over that you'll never be able to go back to earth. You'll be stuck there until the colony ultimately thrives or fails miserably. Just look how many settlements failed over the course of colonizing the America's and even long afterwards during the expansion west. Now to think that you are about 8 months to a year away from rescue, not to mention in on an entirely different planet.

We didn't use the space shuttle to go to the moon in '69. It was the Saturn V rocket.
