Moscow is afraid that people in the main cities will start protesting against the war if too many young men they personally know die in Ukraine. So they send men from poor regions nobody gives a fuck about and pay the poor families some compensation to shut up. Musst be a great feeling for these rural young men to know that their own government considers them cannon fodder.

They just discovered that war is rich people sending poor people to die. Round of applause... BTW the highest rate of enlistment in the US army is from the Samoa Islands and Guam, which are also the poorest. The army is the oldest form of jobs program for poor, unemployed youth.

So Russia uses the war as an ethnic cleansing of their own people?

isn't it like this mostly everywhere? middle class people can afford better education and tend to secure office jobs, while lower income people try to obtain some benefits provided by serving in the army (that also gives them free higher education after and prefences with university entance examinations in Russia) with impoved possibilities to get a job in law enforcement after? That's a common social lift. I saw the same in France and USA. Are we supposed to frown on it?

For reference for those interested: According to russian census data, Buryatia has a population of 950k-1m, while Dagestan has 3.1m-3.2m *flies away*

No shit sherlocks. People from poor outskirt regions join the army because they do not have other opportunities, no job no education there. Unlike them, people from the capitals have everything they need, like big salaries and shit.

Yeah, some folks inherit star-spangled eyes Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord And when you ask 'em, "How much should we give?" Ooh, they only answer, "More, more, more, more!"
