My grandma has alzheimer's disease and my grandpa died last summer. He had a heart attack and she called us for help, but a few hours later she didn't remember what happened. In the following week she constantly looked for him and I had to tell her many times that he died. Every time it was like she heard it for the first time and bursted into tears, so after a while I just said he is down shopping. A few months passed, and she completly forget him. She don't asks about him, she can't even remember where she is. 50 years. They loved each other. My grandpa knew that she is sick and wanted to help her until the very end. But now she can't even recall his name. I hate this disease. I hate it so much

The strength of this dude just to not break down is astonishing. Yes, I know that practice helps with this, since it's probably been happening for a while. but still... it's your mother. Imagine your otherwise healthy parent, just doesn't recognize who you are from one point forward...

My grampa used to be so strong, a true leader, he was a pastor, had a radio show, people would write him letters from many small cities around
