Actually Jesse messed up the story. Rhea sent a dog that protected the goat that was feeding Zeus. When Zeus defeated the Titans he turned that goat an immortal being and gave the same golden dog the task of protecting his temple in Crete. Its after many years that Hephaestus made another mechanical dog with Zeus request for the purpose of gifting it to Europe.
