The hunts are restricted, controlled. The animals targeted are most of the time a danger for their own pack. Like a lion too old to reproduce but not letting the place to young ones. They would be shot either way, so why not let people pay a shitload of money that can be used to preserve things?

Yea you pay to kill the ones that are speccificly bred for that, you kill the animal, maybe take a trohpy or just a picture, meat is distributed to locals and money goes to the park so it can pay for the food, medicen, bills etc...its not the best bussnies plan but it works and parks stay alive.

The number one threat to endangered and threated species is loss of habitat. No habitat means any means of conservation is pointless. Most of these paid hunts are regulated by the government, who in turn pays the locals to help maintain the habitat, and hire rangers to combat poaching. And the animals that can be hunted, are ones who can no longer breed, or are killing of other members of the species.

I keep wondering what those rich people have achieved that makes nothing else matter anymore, to the point where they are driven to go all the way to Africa and shoot a wild animal just for the lolz.
