That seems a bit excessive yes, but a bong does need to have some "seasoned" water if you know what I mean. New water taste weird. I don't think it needs to be cleaned after every smoke but definitely everyday

Wash it Takes like 45 seconds to run some scalding water through some glass, swish around, drain, add fresh water and ice and enjoy.

Mine looks almost worse... I won't smoke bongs that dirty from my friends but it is OK if mine is dirty as he'll and smells like shit
