I have to ask: would this happen to an animal that lives in the wild? What happens if it does? Does it.. die of it? So many questions.

Bloat is usually the result of over-eating certain kinds of vegetation that cause gas. Usually cattle expel gas by burping, but if the gas is excessive and mixes with digestive acid it creates a thick foam inside their digestive track, and the foam blocks the gases normal exit.
