This video is from the 80's, at this time many lighthouses in France weren't automated and needed constant crew to activate, take care and repair the lights. Communications were only by radio of course. Some shifts were indeed dangerous moments when weather was bad (one every 15 days or so). Some times, the sea was so bad that shifts weren't possible. The longest time without shift has been 101 days due to constant storms and big waves. One of the most dangerous lighthouses in France is "Ar Men", located in west of Britain, his nickname is "Hell of the hells" by locals. (fact : french lighthouses are named "Paradize" on earth, "Purgatory" on islands and "hell" in wide sea). I recommand you this short video on ar Men : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zUcFKL7Yyg (reportage from the 60s') *flies away*

I'm not a smart man but... Why do we need man there? I mean we can have a Lighthouse and cameras. Maybe a ship can pass by once a week just to make sure all it working (from a far you can see the light)
