It sound more like a joke my area had more people come and go then got passed around more than Donny the punk did. They saw a red stick in the mud and went Let call this place red stick My area is made by the french rejects of rejects . Then the french came and dump prisoner here. I don't know anything about Denver (I'm not even american) but I believe the mountains provide a steady stream of fresh water. I'm guessing that place has good agriculture and life stock. All and all looks like a very good place to live at.

Pretty much correct. Cheyenne, Wyoming would have been a much more practical place to begin the journey to cross the Rocky Mountains but it was a lawless city. The Denver newspaper tricked a lot of people into traveling through Colorado with stories of finding gold, including the transcontinental railroad. That project would have been far easier to accomplish had they built the tracks through Wyoming or New Mexico.

How beautiful must have been the view when people first saw the Rocky Mountains without the huge city

I haven't been to Denver and I don't know what it's like living there. It looks decent from Google Street View though.
