The Romans had democracy from 506 to 50 BC, while plenty of Greek cities had oligarchy or tyranny.

Actually in ancient Greece thevoting rights held by those who grew 200kgs of wheat or something equal in value. Which means; earliest example of democracy is not actually a democracy but some kind of an olygarchy, since voting rights are held by those who really contribute to economy.

Democracy has done and started plenty of war, in modern Era more than any other ideology. They also started WWII.

To be fair, the Greeks practiced democracy right up until they declared war on themselves and made it so their civilization was too weak to continue
