If you think dentist tells people that teeth should be white its because OP is american and never had money to go to a real dentist in his entire life.

Actually your teeth shouldn't be "white". Your teeth should naturally be a slight shade of yellow. This is because the white enamel is slightly translucent and the yellowish color of the dentin underneath comes through.
