Wishing someone something good, or thanking them with the expectations that they should do the same is a sign of a starved mind. It's a sign of a loser, that needs external validation, often from people who don't care about him/her.

I don't understand why even bother wishing happy birthday to people who you never even speak to? Like I sometimes get "Happy Birthday" from some uncle's cousin's dog's previous owner and I don't even know who they are.

Stop trying. If anybody wants to talk to you, they will. This person clearly has zero interest in you. You desperatly want them to start conversation with you but face it, thats not gonna happen. Move on.
