We like strong female characters when they're:
1. Original. So an entirely new character. Not an originally male character that has been turned into a female in the remake.
2. Well written and actually have a personality.
3. The character fits into the story naturally and her strength is logically explained. So not like this:
male character: is strong because he trained for years and has a lot of battle experience
Female character: Is strong because she's a woman
Her strength needs to make sense.

The thing is there is a difference between a real strong female character and a bullshit plot armor wearing female that is literally unbeatable

In my opinion, if a character is only there because she's a woman and needs to be badass, it will be bad. For every character there should always be a reason for that character to be a part of story, if you can integrate the character into the story then it will not feel like it's forced

Everyone hates Mary Sues, and often these "strong female characters" are just that, because it's sexist to show women in anything else than the best of light att all times. When these film makers think strong women, they take a male characters traits and simply change the gender, making her act just like a man, that's not a strong female characters, but they just wont get that men and women are different.
