For those wondering this particular German soldier has never been identified. There are 3 late war pictures of him. This being perhaps the most famous. It shows "Hans" and a group of German soldiers holding American pistols and smoking American cigarettes. Thats because this picture was taken right after they had ambushed an American recon team. That half track truck in the back is a knocked out American truck. Those guns and cigarettes where taken off dead American soldiers. This is perhaps the last picture taken of a successful German attack post Battle of the Bulge. No one knows what happened to "Hans" its likely that he was killed before the war ended or perhaps was captured by Soviet troops and sent to one of their work camps where he likely died. Another reason why these pics are unique is because it shows German troops relatively well supplied, despite the dire war situation in 1945. This means this is likely a recently refitted unit or perhaps an elite unit.
