I've had this idea for a book in which there are these immortal beings that grow their cities from trees. they don't carve the trees or cut them rather they stroke them with fingers. every day they brush their hand over the trees to gently push them in the right direction and over time the trees are bent to their design. They don't have infinite memory, so they have someone in charge of their memory, and once every few centuries they deposit their memories and introduce a few humans' memories into their collective mind. and someone who hates them infiltrates them pretending to be pure of heart and corrupts every one of them with his mind
