ChInEsE oNe Is BiGgeR Sigh Yes, but it's not just about the aperture. It's not like FAST is just a larger copy. They differ quite significantly in some functions. For one, Arecibo could beside being a radio telescope actually transmit. Apart from the widely known Arecibo message it was used to actively monitor near Earth asteroids, so now we lost a vital instrument of what little we have for actual planetary defence (well more like knowing, whether we'll all die from an impact in the next 50 or so years). Not to mention radar imaging of planets too. But sure, ChInEsE oNe Is BiGgEr.

It was also used to destroy Alderaan.
